December 27, 1999 - According to this week's Canadian TV Guide, this is David Hyde Pierce's response to what he planned to do on New Year's Eve: "I've talked with friends and I've decided it would be a good idea to not be travelling, not on a boat crossing the international dateline, and not be in Times Square with every other person in New York. I might change my mind, but it's more relaxing at home. I also think the whole millennium thing will make a good story-line for Frasier. We should get some mileage out of that."
Also I just posted videocaptures of "The Fight Before Christmas," courtesy of Laura. To view these photos, go to The Complete Frasier Episode Guide and click on "Season 7."

If you have or are thinking of cutting your hair (at least 10 inches), please think about donating it to this worthy cause. For more information on this and other ways to help, please go to locksoflove.org.

But then again, maybe it isn't luck. You know what they say, birds of a feather, flock together :) Go ahead, pat yourselves on the back. You truly deserve it.

To Michele, Kathy, Shirley Ann, Kerrie, Brian, Jennifer, Dawn Marie, Chuq, Victoria, Linda, Karen, Sarah, Dawn, Tane, Michelle, Linda, and Eunice ––
Thank you all for your very generous donations to the Alzheimer's Association. We raised over half a million dollars at the Los Angeles Memory Walk on October 2nd, and you all were a valued part of that great achievement. It's very exciting to see support of the association from all over the U.S., as well as from Canada, England, and Scotland –– Alzheimer's knows no borders, and needs to be fought on an international scale. Thank you all again for your concern and your support,
David Hyde Pierce
Remember, even though the Memory Walk only happens once a year, the Alzheimer's Association accepts volunteers and donations year round. If you'd like to find out what you can do to help, please contact your local chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.

Most will be part of a four-week silent auction to raise money for Hospice Services of Santa Barbara, an organization that provides home care for dying patients. For more information, click here.
October 24, 1999 - Just a little tidbit:   When asked "what was your most memorable costume?" DHP's response was "The Wolf Man." - Entertainment Weekly (October 29, 1999)
October 23, 1999 - This is not directly related to DHP, per se, but since Alzheimer's is a cause near and dear to DHP's heart (and mine), I thought I'd post some recent breakthroughs in Alzheimer's research here. A few weeks ago I posted on the mailing lists that studies conducted at Johns Hopkins found that taking an aspirin and drinking a glass of red wine every day reduces the symptoms of those suffering from the disease and may even delay the onset in others not yet affected with the disease. Further research needs to be done, but definitely a good preliminary sign. Now, the magazine "Science" reports that researchers have just isolated the key enzyme that causes Alzheimer's disease. Of course, drugs to prevent the disease are still years off but it looks like they are making great headway. If you'd like to help in speeding up the process, please donate your time, effort, and funds to the Alzheimer's Association. I'm sure they'd love to hear from you.
October 21, 1999 - The DHP interview from September 27, 1999 that was posted on sfgate.com was just been transcribed. To read the transcript, click here. October 19, 1999 - According to The Hollywood Reporter, the high society Cushing sisters of New York are the focal point of a new movie being developed by Rita Wilson with Lifetime Television. A script being written by Susan Gauthier is expected to be complete in December. Wilson would executive produce along with Michael Besman and would star as Barbara (Babe) Cushing Mortimer, who married CBS founder William Paley in 1947. Greg Gugliotta and Shanna Tyndall are attached as producers. Although no casting has begun, sources said Wilson has talked with Kate Capshaw about a role and with David Hyde Pierce about playing Truman Capote. (Scott Hettrick and Thom Geier) Thanks to Michele for this info.

TV Guide (Oct.16-22, 1999) has named our beloved Dr. Niles Crane as one of "TV's Fifty Greatest Characters Ever" (number 31 to be exact). Niles was one of only four current characters to make it into the list. Personally, I would have ranked him number one on the list. I think Niles is the most well-developed, well-written and well-acted character on any TV show EVER, but I guess that goes without saying :)
31. Niles Crane (David Hyde Pierce) -- Frasier
("The competitive Crane boys may have extraordinarily similar traits, but the arch, fey, fair-to-balding sibling without his name in the title is arguably the greater half of the most oddly entertaining couple since Oscar and Felix (actually, more like two Felixes). Though both are brilliant psychiatrists, Niles (David Hyde Pierce) was the one specifically cited for his paper on a "narcissistic opera singer" (which he cleverly titled, "Me-me-me"). Though they're both clueless when it comes to women, Niles's unrequited passion for Daphne gives him a Watson-like edge on cluelessness. Though they both act like high-strung comic divas, it's invariably Niles who upstages and/or outquips his older sibling by a tad or two. That's why in the end, though we love them both, we love Niles just a soupcon more.") -- TV Guide
October 10, 1999 - Last night American Cinematheque paid tribute to actress Jodie Foster at the 14th annual Moving Picture Ball fundraiser, Hollywood Salutes Jodie Foster: An American Cinematheque Tribute. Previous recipients include Eddie Murphy, Bette Midler, Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, Tom Cruise and John Travolta. The event took place at the Beverly Hilton with celebrity presenters that included Robert De Niro, Jonathan Demme, Lisa Kudrow, Adam Hann-Byrd, Laura Dern, James Garner, Stockard Channing, James Woods, and Gillian Anderson, who introduced clips from Foster's career. The award presentation was made by Foster's "Silence of the Lambs" co-star Anthony Hopkins. DHP, who appeared in Foster's directorial debut, "Little Man Tate," was the host of the fund-raiser, which raised nearly $500,000 for the nonprofit film exhibition group and which will be televised at 8 p.m. Sunday October 17 on TNT. DHP's comments about Jodie Foster: "She's been directing since the womb. The doctor looked at Jodie, and she said, 'Cut!' "

April 22, 1999 - I have scanned the latest thank you note we received from David, and it can be viewed by clicking here. (If you have any problems reading it, the text of the note can also be viewed below; in order to make the file size manageable, I had to scan the note smaller.) As well, thanks to Jamie from the DHP List, we have a copy of the the review of Summer, David's first play. This is the very review that he admitted (on Later, with Peri Gilpin) to not having read to this day. Thank you, Jamie!

April 9, 1999 - We've just received a lovely note from David in response to his 40th Birthday Surprise. Until I get the note scanned and up, here is what he wrote:
To the Members of the Mailing List,
Thank you for your generosity of pocket and spirit. I was, as some of you suggested, buried under a mountain of birthday cards. . .but what a way to go. Your donations to Broadway Cares mean so much to me, I was wishing I had more than one birthday per year; but then I realized I'd be old and you would all be broke.
And although my policy is never to accept gifts from fans, I am so touched by your kind words and support of good causes that I will make an exception and open the Venre Cliquot Champagne in order to toast you all.
Thank you Michele, Kathryn, Abby, Kym, Dawn Marie, Elissa, Victoria, Lana, Gwen, Meredith, Aeronwy, Pamela, Tane, Michelle, Sue, Rhiannon, Samantha, Donna, Eunice, Julie, Marissa, Michelle, Adrienne, Ele, Jennifer, Lisamarie, Pia, Nikki, Jamie, Tom, Kerrie, Kelly, Sarah, and Helen,
David Hyde Pierce
March 24, 1999 - This is for those of you who contributed to David's 40th birthday surprise (but who are not on the DHP List). I just wanted to let you know that I called David's agent Marilyn Szatmary this afternoon in order to see if our package of cards and the Instant Party had safely reached her. They have indeed, and she has just forwarded them on to David. She also mentioned that he definitely took our little "gift idea" in the spirit in which it was intended...wonderful! Thank you again to everyone who pitched in to honour David on his birthday.
March 18, 1999 - There have been several additions to the Page today:
Members of the DHP Mailing List raised a total of $302.00 US towards David's 40th birthday surprise (when only a minimum of $165 was needed!). The money was donated in his honour to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, and the present David shall receive from BC/EFA is the "Instant Party" (which may be viewed here). As well, a package of 50 birthday cards was sent to David from List members, and they should be reaching him shortly. Thank you once again to all contributors, and any questions regarding our little endeavour may be sent to Lana at firstname.lastname@example.org, at any time.
News on the BC/EFA benefit show in which David shall be participating (in New York April 26th). Ticket information can be found at the bottom of the page, and if you are able to attend, *please* do; it will be a fabulous night with all proceeds going to benefit this wonderful cause.

In his words, "Thank you all for your incredible generosity and for your kindness, and for supporting the work of the Alzheimer's Association. Your donation is the best Christmas gift anyone could have given me (and all the compliments about my acting were the second best Christmas gift anyone could have given me.) Best wishes and profound thanks to you all--you made my Christmas. Sincerely, David".
December 17, 1998 - The Raffle Page has been updated! $545.00 US was donated to the Alzheimer's Association on behalf of David, and we are very happy everything worked out so well.
